Kara Dalke is a graduate of the Florida State University School of Medicine and
the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency
Program in Miami, Florida. Dr. Dalke has also earned a Masters of Public Health in Disaster
Management from the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL.
Kara grew up in Maine, graduated from Wiscasset High School and continued her education,
earning a Batchelors of Fine Arts in Theater from Tisch School of the Arts at New York
University. She worked with the New York City financial firm, Sanford Bernstein, assisting in
financial securities research, before working in the home office of Hope Worldwide in Paterson,
New Jersey. It was through Hope Worldwide that Kara went to Somaliland in the Horn of Africa
to help set up the financial administration for the first maternity hospital in that country. While
in Somaliland, the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center occurred. She was evacuated to
Nairobi, Kenya, where she worked helping to establish an HIV/AIDS program for several months
before returning to Somaliland and then back to the U.S.
Upon returning, Kara attended Rutgers University, completing the pre-medical courses she
needed to enter medical school.
Beginning August, 2015, Dr. Dalke will join the Women’s Health and Surgery Center in
Fredericksburg, Virginia. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a dynamic
team, and to settle into the Northern Virginia community where she will be near her parents and
extended family who have resided in the Shenandoah Valley for generations.
